A song. I heard it once before, when I was invited to be near you, though we were separated by cold air, mess, and a thick wall.

I could not make out the words, but its soul reached out to me. And the melody soothed my ears until the final note played and it was time to say goodbye.

My perception of a song, just a melody with vague lyrics, was preserved in short-term memory. And as time went by, its form became more and more distorted, and I, less and less sure of myself.

I brushed off the thought and let go.

That song. I heard it again, when I breached through the wall, and we breathed the same air and shared the same spirit.

I could not make out the words, but it made friends with my soul. And the melody soothed my ears until the final note played and it was again the time to say goodbye.

Its melody resurrected from nothingness, gained a solid form, and carved itself into long-term memory. And you gave me glimpses into that part of you which you were aching to share.

My brain and ears are hopeful. I stay in the mercy of time. My thirst is unquenchable, but for now, goodbye.
